Aunt Bill's Brown Candy

Nobody knows who Bill is the aunt of. A friend of Grant, Jr.'s gave it to him and it quickly became a family favorite. Try it and you'll see why.

Use a 5 quart microwave safe bowl so ingredients won't boil over.
Combine the next four ingredients and cook on high 2-1/2 minutes. (Stir once and turn).

2 cups sugar
l tsp. baking soda
1 cup buttermilk
3/4 cup butter or oleo

Continue cooking l5 more minutes--stirring every 5 minutes. Return to microwave and cook 1 or 2 min. longer or until soft ball forms in cold water.

 

Add 1 tsp. vanilla and beat with mixer until soft peaks form It will take awhile but check often as it starts to thicken up. Stir in 2 cups broken pecans.

Spread in a buttered 9" pan and cut into small squares when cool.
